Chocolate Pear Bread

With pears just barely in season, I have been making a lot of breads and muffins. The pears help the breads stay moist and crumbly, but they also don’t last long. I was inspired by a dessert I had recently that I forgot to photograph: it was a Moscato-soaked pear that was then caramelized, and rested in a pool of chocolate and caramel. Since I only had cocoa on hand and not a lot of time, I threw together another pear-inspired quickbread. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Chocolate Pear Bread

1 ½ cups flour

½ cup cocoa powder

½ cup packed brown sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp salt

1 egg

2/3 cup oil

½ cup milk

½ tsp almond extract

2 very ripe pears, chopped

Preheat oven to 400 F. Mix the flour, brown sugar, cocoa, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. In a mixer, mix the egg, oil, milk, and extract until well combined, then slowly add the dry mixture until evenly mixed. Add the pears and then pour into a loaf pan. Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
